I have a half-day left to work this year. I am looking forward to not working for awhile. It will let me focus on other projects that are more oriented toward manual labor. Felling trees, digging holes, moving large amounts of earth, etcetera.
Heavy labor has a way of toughening the body and focusing the mind, much like the laborers in the Soviet gulags. Of course, many of them died. The ones who survived, though, were tough. They had beaten the odds, because the camps were not intended for anyone to survive.
I will survive, because the labor that awaits me is child’s play compared to what millions of Soviet citizens suffered through and died from. But it doesn’t mean I will enjoy it.
