Chicken and waffles

I have heard about a dish called “chicken and waffles.” Apparently it originated in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City in the 1920s, and consists of fried chicken served with waffles and syrup. There is also a Dutch version of it in Pennsylvania which features stewed chicken and gravy poured on a plain waffle without syrup.

I have never tasted either version until yesterday, when I sampled a hybrid version consisting of fried chicken with a plain waffle.

It was very peppery. I did not like it.
