Don’t shoot the messenger

Today I have to tell a customer that their goals cannot be met in the time they, using the resources they have.

I worry that they will want to hire us to try to meet their goal, instead of changing their goal. I do not enjoy kamikaze missions, and a kamikaze mission is what this project is, on its current timeline.

Or, they will be unhappy with me because I am the bearer of bad news, and they will dismiss me. It’s okay – it’s my last day anyway. But I like to leave a customer on good terms.

We’ll see what happens.
