Jon Anderson and Vangelis, “The Friends of Mr. Cairo”
For whatever reason, the melody from this song is stuck in my heads today, as I continue immersing myself in the joy of plumbing. It would be difficult to find creative music like this being produced and played or streamed today. To be deemed successful today, music has to have every erg of creativity beaten out of it, reduced to the lowest common denominator to appeal to the least-discriminating people. But that’s the state of music today, and today’s audiences are poorer for it.
I like the way the film runs out of the projector and flaps around the reel at the end, as Peter Lorre (playing the part of Joel Cairo in The Maltese Falcon) is speaking.
