The thirteenth floor
Most hotels don’t have a thirteenth floor, to assuage the irrational fears of triskaidekaphobics. This particular hotel doesn’t cater to triskaidekaphobics, and indeed, taunts them with a thirteenth floor that is decorated in horror movie memorabilia.
I’m staying on the thirteenth floor.
There are pictures in the halls from various films such as “Psycho,” “Halloween,” and “Frankenstein” (the 1931 version starring Boris Karloff). There’s even a movie poster for “The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant” (1971), starring Casey Kasem, who is better-known for his long-running radio show “American Top 40” and his character of Shaggy in the Scooby Doo cartoon series.
Perhaps the most disturbing picture on the 13th floor is a blurry photograph of a black cat staring intently out of the frame at you. (Apparently they ran out of movie posters.) I like black cats, and I’ve owned a few, but this particular black cat is unnerving.
I avoid that end of the hallway. The long, cold, dimly-lit hallway.

An Alien Mind 
I think that is a very cool idea. Never understood the problem behind #13. I think someone once had a couple of bad events on that day and somehow it got turned into something that just isn’t. Actually saw a documentary not too long ago about a North Carolina Best Western room, # 225 specifically, which stood just above a leaky carbon monoxide pipe. They only investigated after the second incident. 3 people died. Was not the 13th floor.

Scary! I usually try to route my carbon monoxide emissions toward my neighbor, who has just bought another barking dog to replace the ones that we prayed to death. I am so annoyed.
