I miss working with the police

Periodically I am assigned to train policemen and -women. I’m training some this week. It made me realize how much I enjoy the typical police officer’s laid-back approach, grasp of reality, and honesty. These people have difficult jobs. They deal with the seedy underbelly of society on a daily basis. They operate within a limited set of parameters that often runs counter to common sense and prevents them from doing the best job they can do.

Occasionally they get shot at. Sometimes they die.

That gives them a unique perspective on what’s important, I think. I enjoy interacting with that mindset. They’re easy to understand and relate to.
