More murders of black women in Cleveland

2013-07-22T07:16:59+00:00

The bodies of three women were discovered in and around an abandoned house in East Cleveland on Friday July 19. The discovery of the women, whose bodies were wrapped in several layers of trash bags, revived memories of Anthony Sowell, a serial killer who was sentenced to death in 2011 for the murders of at least 11 women in the same area.

When I was last working in Cleveland, Sowell was murdering his victims only a few kilometers from my workplace. This time around, the murders again took place only a few kilometers from my workplace.

I am tired of working in a war zone. And I work in a “weapons-free building.” For some reason, that does not make me feel safer.

Meanwhile, SWAT officers arrested Michael Madison, a 35-year-old registered sex offender with a prison record, after a brief standoff when he barricaded himself at his mother’s house. Police broke down the door and arrested him without incident. Police say they have evidence that he admired Anthony Sowell.

After a poorly-attended weekend of Trayvon Martin demonstrations in dozens of cities, where is the outrage about a black man killing black women in Cleveland? There won’t be any, of course, just as there’s no outrage about the ongoing slaughter in Chicago. Because it’s perfectly okay for blacks to kill other blacks. Obviously. Or else there would be outrage, and mass demonstrations, and calls for a national dialogue about blacks’ propensity for violence and how to stop it. But there isn’t. Therefore racists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and Eric Holder must be content with the behavior of people like Anthony Sowell and Michael Madison.

Quod erat demonstrandum.
