How did you get here?

Think back and try to remember what you thought about your future when you were very small. Remember what you thought life would be like for you.

Compare that memory of your imagining the future, to the future as you now know it to be. How different are they?

Mine are very different, so different as to be incomparable. It’s a very jarring sensation. It’s not a bad difference, not a good difference, just completely different from what I expected. Perhaps it’s because I knew so little then, I just couldn’t conceive of how things would be now.

I’m sure I will have the same reaction decades from now, when I compare what I will know then, to what I think the future will be now.

And I will still ask myself, “how did I get here?” And I will still not be able to explain it to myself.

This is my answer: I am where money brought me. Has nothing to do with what I imagined because I was too young to understand household economics back then.

I guess that’s why they always say, “follow the money.” You did. And here you are. ;-)

Same as it ever was. That’s like the only Heads song I like. Though “Psycho Killer” has grown on me.
