Better the hard way

Maybe you missed it, but several months ago, Mary Kennedy (widow of former US Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, who was assassinated by a pro-Palestinian militant in the 1968 presidential campaign) chose to end her life by hanging herself at her estate in Massachusetts.

The other day, I saw that Victoria Kennedy, wife of the late sleazebag US Senator Ted Kennedy, spoke out against assisted suicide. She said it was because Ted would have opposed it. (I wonder if she/Ted opposed drunk driving and manslaughter also.)

Maybe I have an overactive sense of irony, but I can’t help but snicker at Victoria’s stance on assisted suicide. After all, suicide is a personal statement, usually undertaken alone. And it’s so much more ethical to commit suicide the hard way, by yourself, without help or support from loved ones. You know, like Mary Kennedy did.
