Gary Numan, “Films”

Stuck in my heads this week, no doubt prompted by my sitting through two worthless movies during my trip to Newfoundland.

“Prometheus” (good cinematography, pathetic half-baked plot, makes “Aliens” look like Shakespeare)

“Dark Shadows” (a complete miss on capturing the campy goofiness of the 1970s cult series about a vampire who wakes up in the current era and tries to fit in… Johnny Depp can’t save it and neither can Helena Bonham Carter)

Those two lame movies were counterbalanced by three good films:

“Men In Black 3” (Josh Brolin channels Tommy Lee Jones perfectly in a sequel that does a much better job of carrying on the MIB name than “MIB 2” did);

“The Lucky One” (the predictable plot and Zac Efron’s weird flat expressionless eyes are balanced by Zeus the German shepherd dog who has more personality than half the cast put together)

“Brave” (another excellent family film from Pixar, the leader in computer animation, about a girl who’s coming of age and who realizes that carving out her independence from her mother has a price)

    I haven’t seen MIB3, yet, but I certainly plan to! Josh Brolin is an immensely talented actor, not to mention not too tough on the eyes (I may be helped by remembering him as “Jimmy Hickok” back in the late 80s – early 90s) …
    “Brave” does look rather good. Gosh, this just reminds me how many movies I haven’t seen!

      I never heard of Brolin until I saw “Jonah Hex.” That was good. “Brave” is awesome.

        Never heard of Josh Brolin? You’ve seen the Goonies, right? (o:

        Wow, “Goonies,” there’s a blast from the past. Saw it years after it came out, too old for it at that point.

    I loved Prometheus. Brave was OK. I watched Buddy Story on PPV last night. It was OK too.

      You have infinite patience with bad writing if you liked “Prometheus.” For example, why did dead crispy guy come back to life as a zombie and kill half the crew? No explanation of that one – zombies are not part of the “Alien” mythology. Why did the Engineer wake up and tear off the android’s head when it spoke to him in his own language? You’d think the Engineer would be interested in talking a bit BEFORE he starts killing. No explanation. Bad writing. ;-)
