Extreme, “Peacemaker Die”

This is my alarm tone this week. It starts gentle, then breaks into a swagger. I like it. Keep in mind that this song is written from a specific point of view, which was part of the theme of the album “III Sides to Every Story,” just like Pink Floyd’s “The Wall. The song is not representative of the views of the artists.

I wish more popular songs would feature historical speeches. Human speech is music, with its own lyrical beat. Teaching people about history within the context of popular music is a worthy endeavour. As Laurie Anderson once said, Hitler’s voice was like a drum, and his voice set people’s feet moving, until the entire German nation was marching in place. And then they decided that all those marching people needed a place to go, like… Poland.
