Deathbed regrets

It’s been a weird week by the sea, visiting a young relative after helping her move into her first apartment, starting her career. It’s been difficult to get anything done at work because of family demands. Then again, when will we have this opportunity to spend this much time together? Never. Ergo, family comes first.

More than one person has said to me, on their deathbed, “I wish I had spent more time with the people I loved.” It’s very poignant, every time I hear it, because they always have the same lament. I still hear their voices, saying that. It was their voices that prompted me to stay here with my family this week, instead of going home to work.

I will tell my superiors to have a chat with the voices of the dead, should I receive flak about my lack of productivity this week.

If family isn’t good for getting out of work, why have it?
